The Haihe River Tourism Festival is held in Tianjin Province in early October, with its main event an International Dragon boat tournament.

The Nadam Fair is a traditional Mongolian festival, which takes place sometime in July and August. Its name translates to amusement or game, so the feature events include wrestling, archery, polo and horsemanship.

The Suzhou Huqiu Temple Fair takes place every October and features exhibitions of all kinds of folk arts.

The Weifang International Kite Festival is held April 20-25 every year, in Weifang City, Shandong Province.

The Shaolin Martial Arts Festival is held in Zhengzhou City, Henan Province, in September every other year, with performances and competitions taking place.

The Peach Blossom Festival in Hunan Province combines the opportunity of visiting the beautiful Peach Gardens, with other diverse activities, such as cockfighting, stilt dancing and the tasting of local dishes.

The Dong National Firecrackers Festival is a yearly event in the Guangxi Zhuang Autonomous Region. Taking place in April it too has a mixture of events and activities, from Dong Opera performances to cockfights and Firecracker shows.

The Zigong International Dinosaur Lantern Fair is one of Sichuan Province’s feature festivals. It takes place in the first lunar month and features a New Year’s Eve party and Lantern show.

The Water Splashing Festival takes place from April 13-15 in Xishuangbanna, Yunnan Province. One of its main events is literally the splashing of water, as well as dragon boat races and the firing of rockets.

The Torch Festival also takes place in Yunnan Province, on the 24th day of the 6th lunar month. It takes place in villages inhabited by the people of Yi, Bai, Naxi, Lahu, Hani, Blang, Lisu, Primi and Jino. Activities include a torch parade, bullfighting, local musical performances and horse racing.

The Great Prayer’s Festival takes place during the 4th to 17th days of the first lunar month, in the Labrang Monastery, Gansu Province.

The Corban Festival is held in areas inhabited by the Huis, Uygurs and Kazakhs in the Xinjiang Uygur Autonomous Region. It is an Islamic festival, held on December 10th of the Islamic calendar. Mainly a festival of prayer, there are other activities, such as horse racing, a cattle-slaughtering ceremony and the game of “Maiden Chasing Her Lover”.

The Mid-Autumn Happy Festival is always held on August 15th, in the Tianyahaijiao Tourism Area, Sanya. The festival is in appreciation of the moon and lanterns, with a folk performance, lantern show and evening party.

The Sanya International Wedding Festival gives couples of all nationalities the option of being married or having their wedding blessed, in a number of locations. Chinese nationals also opt to give wishes of love to each other forever. The festival takes place every year, November 18th-21st.

The Moon Festival takes place on the 15th day of the 8th lunar month (mid – autumn). The moon is perfectly round at this time and Chinese people believe that the round shape means family reunion. Hence it is a time for families throughout China to come together in celebration, where possible.
